Furious over the Supreme Court's (SC) decision to lift the ban on James Laine's book Shivaji: Hindu King In Islamic India published by the Oxford University Press, Maratha outfit Sambhaji Brigade on Sunday demanded removal of the statue of Dadoji Konddev from Lal Mahal.
Agitating at Rani Jhansi Chowk against the book, the activists demanded that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) immediately remove the statue of Konddev, who was "falsely portrayed as Shivaji's guru."
The activists said historians Ninand Bedekar and Shrikant Bahulkar were "frauds" and "had concocted history aimed at wedging a split between communities so that it benefited the hegemony of a vested section, …
